Nel 1956, dopo aver ultimato il volume illustra­to sulla Spagna, Inge Morath riceve l’incarico di recarsi in Iran per la rivista “Holiday” e per aziende americane operanti in quel paese. Per una parte del soggiorno viene accompagnata dell’editore Robert Delpire. Il viaggio diviene occasione per approfondire la conoscenza di quei luoghi, realizzando così un’estesa docu­mentazione fotografica.

Come donna, in questa società fortemente pa­triarcale, ha la possibilità di muoversi all’inter­no della dimensione femminile e cogliere così il rapporto fra le vecchie tradizioni e le trasfor­mazioni innescate dalla moderna società indu­striale. Un volume su questo lavoro viene pub­blicato nuovamente da Robert Delpire con il titolo “De la Perse a l’Iran” (1958).

After completing the illustrated volume about Spain, in 1956 Inge Morath received the assignment of going to Iran for the magazine “Holiday” and for the American companies work­ing in that country. She shared part of the trip experience with the publisher Robert Delpire. The trip became an oppor­tunity to increase her knowledge of those places, thus realiz­ing a wide photographic record.

As a woman, in this strongly patriarchal society, she had the chance to move inside the female dimension and grasp the relationship between old traditions and the transformations of the modern industrial society. A volume about this work was published again by Robert Delpire, under the title “De la Perse a l’Iran” (1958).
